MUSKEDALEN PERMACULTURE FARM
Muskedalen Permaculture Farm is a place for applied permaculture. A place where theory manifests itself in practice. Permaculture is a design system for weaving a sustainable existence. We use a framework of tools when we design our lives to achieve the goal of a footprint the earth can tolerate. Design is a collective term for a vision that is put into a system, planned and developed. Permaculture is about how we think and organize our lives, often we seek solutions beyond the established. Small self-propelled units will put less strain on the earth's resources, the goal is for Muskedalen to be self-sufficient.For the sake of order, the logging field on the right belongs to the neighbor. I have never hired a contractor with a forestry machine.
Systemic design.
Primary resource use:
The water resources here are good and the groundwater is local. Just above the house there is a hill and a small marshy forest. This provides a good water inflow to the house, and the well that supplies the farm with water. The runoff from the hill also provides water for the vegetable soil. The runoff from the patio leads to the upper pond in the garden.
Greywater is treated in an approved greywater plant. Mixing feces with water is not a good idea. An incineration toilet is used as a temporary solution. For urine, a urine plant has been built, which consists of a urine pit with a nursery above.
There is a great need for soil here, and compost is an important resource. There are compost systems for food waste, plant residues and wood. A first goal is to grow most of the food eaten in the summer itself. By building an underground cellar, the food can be stored through the winter.
Secondary resource use:
Processing food so that it can be stored using various techniques such as canning, fermenting and, last but not least, making wine.
There is a modest electrical system here, which limits the use of electrical energy. Electrical energy is considered good energy that is used to power lights, electronics, motors and occasional heating. Self-cut wood is used for heating, and solar heat is stored directly.
I am alone in this place and my work capacity is not very high, in addition, I am in the establishment phase. This makes it necessary to use high technology such as computers, tractors, private cars and chainsaws. Petrol and diesel are used to operate the tractor and small engines. There are lots of tools on the farm, and most of the technology used here I can repair myself.
The facilities here are simple, the house is small, the outbuilding as well. This means that I have lowered my requirements and adapted to a simpler lifestyle. Those who come to visit learn that it is okay to think differently and live in a more humble way. The place needs more people, but the challenge is that there is no indoor accommodation here. If there is interest, I will set up a lavvo.
Welcome to Muskedalen!
